How long more do you reckon that Kim Jong Un will last in power?

How long do you think that Kim Jong Un will remain in power in North Korea. His situation reminds me very much of a former communist-era Romanian prez, Nicolae Ceacescu (1918 - 1989).

Ceaucescu was general secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965 to 1989, and as such was the country's second and last Communist leader. He was also the country's prez from 1967 to 1989.

A member of the Romanian Communist youth movement, Ceaușescu rose up through the ranks of Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej's Socialist government and, upon the death of Gheorghiu-Dej in 1965, he succeeded to the leadership of Romania’s Communist Party as General Secretary.

After a brief period of relatively moderate rule, Ceaușescu became increasingly brutal and repressive. By some accounts, his rule was the most rigidly Stalinist in the Soviet bloc. He regulated public speech and the media that were very strict even by Soviet-bloc standards, and internal dissent was not tolerated. His state's secret police, the Securitate, was one of the most ubiquitous and brutal secret police forces in the world. In 1982, with the goal of paying off Romania's large foreign debt, Ceaușescu ordered the export of much of the country’s agricultural and industrial production. The resulting extreme shortages of food, fuel, energy, medicines, and other basic necessities drastically lowered living standards and intensified unrest. Ceaușescu's rule was also marked by extensive cult of personality, nationalism, a continuing deterioration in foreign relations even with the Soviet Union, and nepotism, grooming his son to be his dynastic successor.

After he ordered security forces to fire on anti-government demonstrators in Timișoara, on December 17, 1989, the Romanian communist government he led collapsed, virtually overnight. The demonstrations spread to Bucharest and became known as the Romanian Revolution, which was the only violent removal of a Communist government in the course of the revolutions of 1989. Ceaușescu and his wife, Elena, fled the capital in a helicopter, but were captured by the armed forces. On 25 December, they were hastily tried and convicted by a special military tribunal on charges of genocide and sabotage of the Romanian economy in a roughly one-hour-long show trial. Ceaușescu and his wife were then immediately executed by a firing squad.

I kind of foresee a somewhat similar kind of end for Kim Jong Un. He is similarly isolated and similarly lacking in real, forever dependable, all weather allies. He is also similarly overconfident in his own so called invincibility, whereas it is really only a temporary illusion, at best.

Now, this article below is one based on a press conference given by Thae Yong-Ho, former NK ambassador to Britain.

North Korea is on the verge of collapse and Kim Jong-un’s ‘days are numbered’, defector says

The secretive dictatorship of North Korea is ‘crumbling’ and on the verge of collapse – and dictator Kim Jong-Un’s ‘days are numbered’, a defector has claimed.

Thae Yong-Ho fled his post as North Korea’s deputy ambassador to Britain in August.

In a press conference, held under tight security, he said, ‘ Kim Jong-Un’s days are numbered. The traditional structures of North Korean systems are crumbling.’

The defector said he felt sure others would follow him as the country’s elite ‘turned their backs’ on Kim Jong-Un as the country was on a ‘downward path’.

Nuclear-armed North Korea has been ruled by the Kim dynasty since its foundation in 1948.

It is subject to United Nations Security Council sanctions over its nuclear and missile programmes and is accused by the West of widespread human rights abuses.

Thae is among the highest-ranking defectors from the North for years. He said he had begun to waver as his diplomatic role granted him access to outside information.

His disillusionment turned to despair after Kim, who inherited power from his late father Kim Jong-Il five years ago, began ruthlessly purging officials, he added.

Kim had his own uncle and one-time political mentor Jang Song-Thaek executed in late 2013 on an array of charges, including treason and corruption.

North Korean diplomats are generally compelled to leave one of their children behind in Pyongyang when they are dispatched abroad, but Thae was able to take both his sons, now aged 19 and 26, to London – easing his preparations to defect.

After his sons, now 20 and 27, learned about life in Britain, they began asking him questions such as why North Korea barred use of the internet and executed people without proper legal procedures, he said.

Their British friends at school made fun of them over the nature of their homeland, he said.

For instance, when they grew long hair, their friends laughed and asked whether they could be arrested in North Korea because they had heard all young men were required to have short haircuts.

“These kinds of questions bombarded my sons,” Mr Thae said.

He said he decided to talk frankly with them about North Korea.

Mr Thae concluded that his sons would have “miserable” lives if they returned home because they had come to know the truth about the country.
Ahead of their defection to South Korea last year, Mr Thae said he told his sons that he was going to “cut the chains of slavery and you are free men”.

‘The Kim Jong-Un regime abuses love between parents and children to control North Korean diplomats,’ he said.

After Thae’s defection the North’s state media denounced him as ‘human scum’ and accused him of embezzling state funds, raping a minor and spying for South Korea in exchange for money.

And now the desperate hyperbole looks like turning even more desperate ... They say, when a dude starts feeling desperate, he starts acting funnier & stranger, like still laughing & smiling under the most inappropriate situations, while at the same time trying his darndest best to convince everybody that everything is still under control ...

North Korea warns it will 'wipe America off face of the Earth' after accusing US of plotting chemical weapons attack

North Korea has warned it will wipe America "off the face of the Earth" after accusing the US of planning a chemical weapons attack.

In an explosive new report published today, the secretive country has claimed the US is plotting an 'unprecedented disaster' on its nation.

However, the country says it will not remain a 'passive onlooker' - instead vowing to destroy the US, or 'empire of evils', in a catastrophic retaliation.

State newspaper The Rodong Sinmun says: "The DPRK will never remain a passive onlooker to the moves of the U.S. to provoke a biochemical war against it but will conclude the standoff with the U.S., the empire of evils, by wiping it off the face of the Earth.

"The U.S. must not disregard the warning of the DPRK that its reckless military moves would lead to its most miserable final doom."

The report, entitled 'U.S. Biochemical War Plan against Korean Nation under Fire' claimed the US is plotting a chemical weapons attack on the country.

It claimed that evidence had been uncovered suggesting the US transported chemical weapons to the South Korean port city of Busan in preparation for war.

The state newspaper adds: "The U.S. has fully revealed its criminal scenario to make no scruple of using biochemical weapons to exterminate the Korean nation in order to realize its wild ambition for dominating the world.

"Recently, the U.S. is busy floating the wild rumor about "threat from biochemical weapons" of the DPRK. Lurking behind this is its sinister design to secure a pretext for provoking a biochemical war against the DPRK.

It seems KJU hasn't done his homework well enough, and he has not learned his lessons so well either ... US does not attack or invade anyone simply on impulse, It will play up the mind games & the propaganda works first .. At least for many months, if not years ... It will weaken & tire the potential adversary first, wear it down ... With siege, blockade, sanctions, whatever ... And then also there comes the demonisation & the coalition building stages ... Only when those parts hv been very adequately achieved, then preparations for the other later stages might begin ...
